If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. --Eckhardt

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
An old Yiddish folktale, from my friend Robin Lynn Young:

A poor and illiterate man seeks out a scribe to write a prayer for him to 'send' to G-D...
He is unable to afford the fee and so goes home empty handed.

Back at his hovel, he carefully traces the letters of the alphabet on scraps of parchment, but still can not understand which letters go together to make the words he desires.

Then an inspiration comes to him. He very gently gathers up all the letters he has traced and, going outside - tosses them into the air.

For he has come to understand that his prayer Will be heard by The Almighty no matter how poorly it is written or worded.

**to my friends, who may be reading this, Thank You for being in my life. I am grateful every day.**

Your result for Test yourself: What alignment are you?...

Lawful Neutral

You are The Judge; Lawful Neutral.

You scored 63% Lawful and 61% Good, which makes you Lawful Neutral.

Chaotic-Lawful is the ethical scale, on which you scored 63%, where 0% is utter chaos and 100% is total cosmos.

This Lawful scale doesn't necessarily judge how committed to the system you are, even though one could guess so from the name since the system usually holds the law, but instead it means how sorted internally you are, and how likely it is for you to choose cosmos over chaos.

You are lawful, which means you are a collected individual who rather chooses calm situations over mayhem, and you would be more inclined to follow rules than a chaotic character.

The Evil-Good scale is quite easily figured out, being the morale scale, and on this you scored 61%, where 0% is totally evil and 100% is completely good.

Now, evil here on this scale doesn't necessarily mean you're out to make people suffer. It means ego-centering and glorification of one's ego. You, as neutral, don’t make your actions based on a selfless vs selfish basis, but rather what you have judged to be the right thing to do for other reasons.

Being lawful neutral, you set rules or personal codes as something important to act according to, and your moral views comes in second place. You act with logic over passion.

Well, the chantey gig with Broadside went well. We got lots of compliments, but had no CDs to sell...which is just as well, since it's not the same Broadside at all.

Steve played today at Stan James' memorial. sigh. A great loss for the sea music community.

And, tomorrow is Coventry, at 1:10! Should be a fun time, and hopefully lots of people will show up.

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents,
beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home
decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

Wawona hauled off today

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

This morning, they hooked her up to tugs and hauled her off to the shipyard to cut her up. Most of her will end up in a landfill, except for the few pieces that have already been scavenged off her. Ivar Haglund helped arrange her purchase back in 1964, and he's got to be royally pissed off, wherever he is, at this sad state of affairs.

I've known Wawona for about 30 years, sung on her, partied on her, worked on her, and this is like a death. When I think of all of the musicians that have played on her, all of the music embedded in the timbers, it breaks my heart. This is like losing Bobby Kotta, Steve Guthe and Stan James all over again.

And we tried our best, but we couldn't save her from the people who would rather let her rot. And we couldn't manage to get Seattle interested in saving her. Because really, Seattle isn't interested in history, especially any history emphasizing those working class roots. sigh. It's all so depressing.

Rest in Peace, lady

Your result for The Chakra Test...

The Sensuous One

You have scored 100% Desire - Your dominant Chakra is the "Sacral (Spleen) or Orange Chakra"

The "Sacral (Spleen) or Orange Chakra" is where energy for one's sexuality and feelings originates from. It is located at the spleen (and genitals). This is the chakra which is most developed in you at this time.

The Sacral chakra is about feeling and sexuality. When it is open your feelings flow freely, and are expressed without you being over-emotional. You are open to intimacy and you can be passionate and lively. You have no problems dealing with your sexuality.

Depending on your percentage score, there is always more room for development. When this chakra is under-active you may become stiff and unemotional. You may even develop a poker-like face, as a defence mechanism, to stop others from knowing what you are feeling. If the chakra becomes over-active, you may become overly, emotionally attached to people and sexually active.

What is most important is to find balance amongst all 7 chakras. Have a look at what percentages you scored on the others and work to increase their power and balance with each other.

Root Chakra: 65% Passion, Sacral(Spleen) Chakra: 100% Desire, Solar Plexus (Navel) Chakra: 59% Purpose, Heart Chakra: 67% Balance, Throat Chakra: 89% Expression, Third Eye Chakra: 76% Imagination and Crown Chakra: 88% Spirituality!

"Sacral Chakra" Key Words: Feelings, Emotions, Intimacy, Procreation, Polarity, Sensuality, Confidence, Sociability, Freedom, Movement

"Sacral Chakra"Attributes: Color - Orange: Sense - Taste: Element - Water: Seat - Creativity

If you enjoyed this test, I would love the feedback!

Death is Nothing At All

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I just found this poem. It's such a perfect thing, I wanted to post it.

'Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched,
unchanged.

Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort,
without the ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!'

Where else can you find exquisite Wortcunning oils and incense, prayer scarves and killer chai all in one place? www.travelersteaco.com

I hope that you will pass this on, and that they'll see a rise in business. The prices are good, they just need more customers.

Oh well, crap

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
sigh. Steve's oldest sister passed away early this morning. She'd been in the hospital since May. The little hospital in their Ohio town didn't bother to take a wound culture when she got cellulitis and it turned into flesh-eating bacteria that caused her to have a leg removed in Columbus. After much fussing back and forth between Columbus and their hometown hospital, she finally got to come home this weekend. They were going to let her be at home until it was time to finally close the wound. And then she died at home. Her heart just stopped. She must've really wanted to be home.

Good thoughts for Steve, as well as his sister's swift passage, are much appreciated. We'll be going to the funeral mass (!) next week.

He's home!!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
FINALLY!! After too many days of running back and forth from hospital to home and back again, to sleeping on a cot in his room and being disturbed at 1:30am by a cheery, "Hi, Mister LAY-lor! I'm Melanie and I'll be your nurse tonight", he's home. It's already a huge improvement.

Though I have to say, if anyone's going to have surgery, Swedish First Hill is great. Almost all of the nurses were great, the people were friendly and helpful, and they made a scary experience bearable.

This was a far cry from our horrific experience at Ballard Swedish. Brrrr.

Now we can get some sleep. :)

Steve's surgery went exactly as it was supposed to, in, out and out of recovery. So now, his insides just need to start working again and he'll be able to eat and drink...and go home. Thanks to everyone who lit candles and sent energy. I know it helped more than anything.

So tomorrow, Friday, Steve goes into Swedish hospital for diverticulitis surgery. I hope and pray to the Lady that it's simple and uninvolved. It's supposed to be. I realized that I now will have seen the inside of every hospital in Seattle except Virginia Mason. sigh. I just want him to be better and not have diverticulitis attacks anymore. Is that so much to ask?

It's great to go out every night on fun or pleasure bent;
To wear your glad rags always and to never save a cent;
To drift along regardless, have a good time every trip;
To hit the high spots sometime, and to let your chances slip;
To know you're acting foolish yet to go on fooling still;
Till Nature calls a showdown and you pay the bill..."

NBPS - The Idealist

Nature, Background, Big Picture, and Shape

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.

Sad, sad, sad

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Another part of history is gone. Trixie has passed away. Those of us that knew her in the SCA loved her laugh, her smile, her way of making everything lighter.

Her real name was Jean Christensen, but people usually knew her by other names. In the 60's music scene, she was Supii, famed for taking great pictures of all the bands at Eagles Auditorium. It was her job to get the bands where they were supposed to be, whether that was in the Green Room or on the stage, and then she was to shoot 2 rolls of film at every concert. She gave Steve some of the pix she took of his band. Did you know she made slinky pants for Rod Stewart? And once, she made "babalu" shirts for Steve, John Weiss and Andy Parypa. The picture is great.

Her time in the SCA marked a lighter place in the universe, when the period police didn't breathe down your neck and no one could rival her at "Clenchawench".

She leaves behind a daughter, 2 dogs and a world of friends who will miss her terribly. There is a new star in the heavens, but a light has gone out on earth.
